Description.

The performance of a portable wireless transceiver using a multiport antenna array for MIMO reception and/or transmission, for instance a user equipment (UE) of an LTE wireless network, depends on the impedance matrix seen by the radio-frequency signal ports of its receiver and transmitter. Unfortunately, three phenomena can degrade the performance of the transceiver:

The MIMOmatch-B portfolio provides means for automatically compensating coupling between the antennas, correlation between the channels or variations in the impedance matrix of the multiport antenna array caused by a variation in the frequency of operation and/or by the user interaction. The MIMOmatch-B portfolio can therefore be compared to the United States Patent number 8,102,830 assigned to Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, and to the United States Patent number 8,059,058 assigned to Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB.

The map on the right shows the patents of the MIMOmatch-B portfolio (P54 to P57) and other inventions offered for sale by Tekcem. From right to left, the map shows inventions about signal transmission inside equipments, inventions related to radio transmission in general, and then inventions connected to physical layer (PHY) procedures of wireless networks. Time flows from the top to the bottom of the map, and "present" means "granted patents". In the map, a red arrow from A to B means that A is very likely to be used in B, a black arrow from A to B means that A might be used in B.

The invention P54 relates to an antenna tuning apparatus for a multiport antenna array used for sending and/or receiving electromagnetic waves for radio communication. The antenna tuning apparatus comprises several adjustable impedance devices. A variation in the impedance matrix of the antenna array can be compensated with a new adjustment of the adjustable impedance devices. A short technical presentation of this invention is available at Section 1 of this page. Detailed results have been published in several peer-reviewed technical articles, which may be downloaded here.

The invention P55 relates to a method for radio reception, and to a receiver for radio communication using a plurality of antennas and an antenna tuning apparatus such as the antenna tuning apparatus of P54. In P55, the reactance of each adjustable impedance device of the antenna tuning apparatus is mainly determined by one or more tuning control signals obtained using one or more quantities representative of a channel matrix.

The invention P56 relates to a method for radio reception and a receiver for radio communication using a plurality of antennas and a multiple-input-port and multiple-output-port (MIPMOP) amplifier, like P34 of the MIMOmatch-A portfolio. In P56, the MIPMOP amplifier comprises adjustable impedance devices, the reactance of each adjustable impedance device being mainly determined by one or more tuning control signals obtained using one or more quantities representative of a channel matrix.

The invention P57 relates to a method and an apparatus for automatically tuning an impedance matrix, for instance the impedance matrix seen by the power amplifiers of a radio transmitter using a plurality of antennas simultaneously. This invention uses a multiple-input-port and multiple-output-port tuning unit, which may be an antenna tuning apparatus of P54. The invention P57 also discloses a radio transmitter using this apparatus.
